About Suitree Experience Hotel

If you’re planning a trip to Costa Rica’s Pacific Coast and want an experience different from the usual hotel stay, look no further than the Suitree Experience Hotel. We discovered this hidden gem during our family trip in March 2024, after spending some time exploring Nosara. For our last night in Costa Rica, we wanted a hotel near the airport and stumbled upon this unforgettable spot – and we were lucky we did!

Inspired by the charm of traditional tree houses, the hotel features suites elevated on metal frames, offering sweeping views of the surrounding mountain landscape. Each suite stands alone, so once you climb the spiral staircase to your room, it really feels like you’ve entered your own private retreat in the treetops.

Location

Tucked away in the town of Sardinal in Costa Rica’s Guanacaste Province, the Suitree Experience Hotel offers a peaceful, off-the-beaten-path escape. It’s a quick 30-minute drive from Daniel Oduber Quirós International Airport (LIR), making it easy to get to, but far enough to feel like a true getaway.

Because the hotel is in a pretty remote area, there are no restaurants or activities within walking distance. If you’re planning to explore a bit or stay more than a night, I definitely recommend renting a car. While Suitree does offer airport transfers, a car makes things much more convenient and lets you discover some of the beautiful spots nearby at your own pace.

One thing to note: the hotel is perched on a hill, and getting to your room can be a bit of a climb. Luckily, they offer golf cart service on request, so you won’t have to haul your luggage up the slope if you’d rather not.

Rooms

We stayed in one of the treetop suites and absolutely loved it. Getting to the room involves climbing a spiral staircase, which adds to the treehouse aesthetic, but might be tricky for anyone with mobility concerns. Once you’re up there, though, you’re rewarded with a 360-degree wraparound deck offering breathtaking views of the surrounding hills and jungle.

Inside, the suite is circular and wrapped in windows, making you feel totally immersed in nature without giving up comfort. Our suite had a king bed and a bunk bed, which was ideal for our family of four. The hotel also had an option of a treetop suite with a jacuzzi – that would have been amazing to experience!

If the stairs are a concern, no worries — Suitree also offers ground-level bungalows, giving you a few different ways to experience the magic while staying comfortable.

Food and Drinks

The hotel has one on-site restaurant, Taru, which is featured on Suitree’s website as a slow food experience with a focus on locally sourced ingredients. My husband and I enjoyed the flavors and presentation, but we did notice the menu wasn’t exactly kid-friendly. For a one-night stay, it was perfectly fine—but if we had stayed longer, the limited selection might have felt a bit repetitive.

Breakfast was included with our room, and you also have the option to add a half- or full-board meal plan. Since the meals aren’t exactly budget-friendly—and there aren’t other restaurants nearby—opting for a meal plan could be a smart move if you’re planning to stay more than a night or two.

Taru also has a lovely drink menu and a surprisingly extensive wine list for such a remote spot. There’s even a swim-up bar by the pool, which was a fun touch. We also spotted a bar setup at the Mirador (a scenic overlook area), but it wasn’t open during our visit.

Amenities

Suitree has several pools scattered around the property, each with its own vibe. There’s a main pool near the lobby with a swim-up bar, which is great for a quick dip and a cocktail. Our favorite spot was the series of stone pools tucked away in a quieter corner of the resort—perfect for relaxing, listening to the sounds of nature, and completely unwinding. During our stay, there were only a few other guests, so we had the pools entirely to ourselves.

One of the real highlights was the Mirador lookout at the very top of the property. This dreamy canopy setup features a giant net with cushions—ideal for lounging during the day or stargazing at night. It felt like our own little hideaway above the treetops.

While we didn’t try them ourselves, the hotel also offers massage services, which would be a great way to top off a day of exploring or poolside lounging.

Activities

We did not book any activities through the hotel, but they offer an extensive list of tours on their website. The hotel also has mountain bikes and UTVs for rent.

Overall Impression

True to its name, Suitree Experience Hotel delivered an experience we won’t soon forget. Nestled in the heart of Costa Rica, every detail of the resort felt thoughtfully designed to highlight the beauty and essence of the country—from the stylish room finishes and delicious cuisine to its breathtaking location.

The customer service was exceptional. The staff consistently went above and beyond to make our stay comfortable and special. One moment that really stood out was when my son had an upset stomach and the bartender kindly whipped up a drink with Sprite and bitters, a much-appreciated gesture.

It’s the little things that make a big difference, and Suitree had plenty of them. A telescope at the Mirador lookout and binoculars and robes provided in-room were just a few of the thoughtful touches that encouraged guests to slow down, soak in the surroundings, and truly connect with nature.
